In paintings exploding with life, spirit and motion Prameesha Abeysekera explores the dance of light and shadow, using expressionism to breathe to life the story of horses that have touched her. The paintings vibrate with energy and movement moulded with her hands, ink and mixed media.

A very tactile person, Prameesha paints with her fingers dipped in ink and other water based media. She traces the feel of movement and energy of her subjects on paper, yupo and canvas, working with wet-on-wet and splatter techniques. She is inspired by the magical interactions within her medium as well as her subject, which holds a special place in her heart.

“Horses make me feel free, more in touch with who I am” says Prameesha, “they are my safe place, and never fail to inspire”.

Prameesha Abeysekera lives and works in Calgary, Alberta. This is her first solo show. Her background in graphic design and horse riding instruction have given her an opportunity to study the horse, its movements and its possibilities as an element of design. Being raised with horses in Sri Lanka, Prameesha connects her paintings to stories of horses she has known, making every painting a personal tribute to the freedom and wildness they make her feel.
